    Surly to the Extreme

    Judi Shervell

Working with Mike Rinder was probably the least pleasant experience I have had in my staff career of 35 years. He was surly to the extreme, rarely smiled and when he did it was usually at someone else’s expense after he had said something particularly derogatory to or about them in their presence. He seemed to take delight in ensuring staff were humiliated in front of others, stating how they had screwed up on something, milking the opportunity to make it as unpleasant and demeaning as possible for the person. I know because he subjected me to this treatment and I personally saw him do it to others.

He seemed to take delight in ensuring staff were humiliated in front of others.

The worst thing I ever saw him do was pick up a young woman by the throat and lift her up so that her face was level with his, shoving her against a wall, all the while screaming at her at the top of his voice. She was about five feet tall and he towered above her when she was standing on the floor. It was like David and Goliath, only in this case “David” didn’t win. The woman was extremely upset about this for months afterwards. His reason for this outrageous behavior? She didn’t get him something he asked for.
